NSU VS. WAYNE STATE GAME 2

WAYNE, Neb. - Attacking early and often with their bats proved to be successful for the Northern State baseball team (5-21, 3-15 NSIC), who upset Wayne State (25-7, 11-3 NSIC) by a score of 8-6 in the second game of two played today in Wayne, Neb.  Game 1 was a 13-8 win for the Wildcats.  Northern State hosts Minnesota, Crookston at Fossum Field on Wednesday with the first pitch tossed at 2:00 p.m.

The top half of the NSU batting order did all of the damage in the day's win.  All nine hits and eight RBIs came from the first five batters.  Adam Kampsen started the first inning with a two-out double and scored from a Tom Keiser single.  Keiser completed his turn as Lucas Jung drilled a triple to right center field.  Keiser and Kampsen each added homeruns in the game, which was led by the Wolves for the entirety.  Matt Tales earned his first win after four innings of work, with Derek Hoellein coming in for three innings and gaining the save.  Both pitchers allowed three runs and had a strikeout.

The win was huge for the Wolves, who rebounded from a 13-8 first game loss that was completely dominated by the Wildcats.  WSC had 11 hits in the game, although they only had to come up with two singles in the first two innings as NSU pitching and fielding errors helped Wayne to a 6-0 lead.  A five-run third inning featured a few sturdier knocks for Wayne and the game was put out of reach.

The Wolves used Wildcat errors and a number of doubles to score late in the game.  Payton McCleary and Kampsen each had two hits, and Matt Geissler knocked out a homerun and reached twice on errors before coming around to score three times.
