MITCHELL, S.D. - The Dakota Wesleyan baseball team shut out the Northern State Wolves in a doubleheader played on Wednesday. The Tigers downed NSU 11-0 in game 1 and 10-0 in game two, both of which ended in five innings. The Wolves are 2-10 on the year, while the Tigers improve to 8-9 overall. NSU plays at Winona State this Saturday and Sunday.
Northern State was out-hit just 5-2 in the first game, but a number of pitching miscues resulted in a seven-run third inning for Dakota Wesleyan that put the game out of reach for the Wolves. The Tigers also notched a run in the first inning and three runs in the fifth.
Lucas Jung and
Tom Keiser had the only hits for the Wolves in the game.
Tyler Oliver took the loss from the bump.
The Wolves came up with twice as many hits in game 2, but never got a baserunner past second base. The Tigers came up with eight hits and scored in each of the first three innings and the fifth. They led 6-0 after just two innings, gaining an extra out in the first inning with an NSU fielding error and combining two walks and a wild pitch with three hits for four runs in the second. Four separate hitters notched hits for the Wolves, including a double from
Adam Kampsen. Jung took the hill for the first two innings and took the loss.
