MINNEAPOLIS
, Minn. – Brock Pashen tallied 12 strikeouts in the second game of the first doubleheader between Northern State (2-6, 0-2 NSIC) and the University of Mary (3-12, 2-0 NSIC) on Thursday morning. The Marauders took game one, 6-5 and game two, 3-1.  The matchup is part of the NSIC's first Metrodome Classic. The teams will play another doubleheader on Friday morning, starting at 6:00 a.m.

GAME 1
The Wolves made a comeback run in the late innings of game 1, gaining their first hit in the fifth inning and finishing the game equal with the Marauders with six hits each.

The Wolves were dug into a hole early on as the University of Mary notched five runs from four hits in the first inning. Down 6-0 going into the bottom of the fifth, Northern State awoke from the early game slumber and began to put metal on the ball.

Matt Tales started the inning out with a single to right center field and made the move to third from a Tom Keiser double that snuck down the left field line. Austin Simons drove in the Wolves' first two runs of the day with a single to right field. Northern tacked on another run in the sixth with Aaron Kappes reaching on a bunt single, making his way to third following two walks, and reaching the plate on a Matt Tales sacrifice fly.

Down 6-3 with their final three outs remaining, Lucas Jung opened the seventh inning with a triple to the center field gap. NSU's next batter, Mitch Locke, drove Jung in with a double. Locke would come around to score later in the inning, but the Wolves were unable to come up with a final hit to tie the game.

Nathan Zacher (1-2) took the loss from the bump in NSU's first game of the NSIC Metrodome Classic. Following a bumpy first inning, Zacher retired U-Mary batters much more efficiently in his remaining four innings of work. He faced just four men in each of the second through fourth innings and finished the day with five strikeouts. Tyler Oliver worked two innings, striking out a set and not giving up a hit or run.

NSU's hits came from six different players, including one from Locke, who led the Wolves with six putouts from behind the plate. Simons led the team with two RBI.

GAME 2
Junior Brock Pashen pitched an outstanding game for the Wolves in the back end of the twinbill. He struck out 12 batters while giving up just three earned runs in a complete game. Pashen started the game virtually un-hittable, ringing up all three outs in both the first and third innings. The Marauders did not get on the board until the fourth inning as the leadoff batter put a triple into center field and was scored on UM's next batter. The other two U-Mary runs came in the sixth inning with a two-run homer.

Unfortunately for Pashen, the Wolves' bats were unable to give him enough run support for the win. The Wolves again did not mark their first hit until the fifth inning and got on the board just once, with James Paul scoring from a Kampsen double in the sixth. Matt Geissler went 2-for-3 from the plate.
