ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The Northern State softball team (0-6) finished play at the HuskyDome Classic on Sunday. They fell 11-0 to a tough University of Mary (2-1) squad but played a better game against North Dakota (4-3) despite losing 8-4. The indoor event, hosted by St. Cloud State, gave the Wolves an opportunity to play some early season games. Their next action is on March 12, when they take on Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Against the Marauders in a non-conference matchup, the Wolves got singles in the fourth and fifth innings, but started the game by being retired in order the first time around the lineup. Lead-off batter
Kaylee Johnsonstarted the fourth inning with a single and advanced to second on a
Brianna Conrad sacrifice bunt. Northern's other hit of the game was a
Heather Olson single in the fifth inning.
The Marauders opened the game with two earned runs and an unearned run in the first inning. The Wolves shut down the University of Mary in the second inning, but allowed runs in each of the following three inning. UM's Ward ended the game with a grand slam in the fifth inning to set the final score at 11-0.
Samantha Francis pitched the complete game, giving up 12 hits and eight earned runs. She walked two batters and recorded one strikeout.

The Wolves played a strong game against North Dakota in their final action of the weekend. They matched UND in hits with 12 and committed just a single error in the game. North Dakota had four hits in the second inning that led to four runs and gave them a 4-0 lead.
Christi Schulte got the Wolves on the board in the bottom of the inning with a home run over the left field fence. UND tacked on two runs in each of the fourth and sixth innings, three of which were earned.
Northern had a three-run fifth inning, started by a
Lindsey Cegla single. A UND error put
Jamie Horner on base and a
Heather Olson single drove in NSU's first run. Olson and Schulte came around to score later in the inning after
Sarah Curley drove a hit into right center field. The Wolves would be unable to close the gap with UND, but were happy with the improved play. Schulte pitched three innings, giving up four hits and four runs while striking out two. Conrad had the toss for three innings, as well, giving up eight hots and three earned runs. Sam Francis retired the final three batters in the seventh inning.
