Steinhagen Downs 20 Against Wolves

Northern Falls 0-3 To #3 Concordia-St. Paul

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Concordia-St. Paul's Maria Steinhagen overpowered the Wolves with 20 kills in Friday's three-game decision that went to the Golden Bears with scores of 30-26, 30-21, 30-21. With the win, the third-ranked Bears clinch the NSIC regular season title with a 28-3 overall and 16-1 NSIC record. The Wolves (13-14, 8-9 NSIC) wrap up the regular season at MSU Moorhead tomorrow afternoon.

The Wolves countered the Golden Bear attack with their block, but they could not dig up enough balls to take an advantage in the match. The Golden Bears had 49 kills, including 20 from Steinhagen, who committed just two errors for a hitting percentage of .529. As a team, CSP hit .246 in the match while Northern hit .121.

The Wolves had two leaders stick out in the match, Kelsey Aden and Emily Knaeble. Aden had ten kills and five serving aces while also totaling four block assists. Knaeble led the squad with 11 kills and had a team high 16 digs. The squad had 39 total kills and 7.5 blocks. They aced CSP passers seven times, but had the favor returned eight times.

Steinhagen was the only Concordia player to finish in double figures for kills on the night. She also had two block assists and a solo roof. Whitney Meierotto had four ace serves, 14 digs and two block assists. Maggie McNamara ran the offense and had 41 assists. The Golden Bears had 72 digs and eight blocks.
