ABERDEEN, S.D. - The Northern State women's swimming program had their inaugural swim meet, hosting MSU Moorhead on Friday, October 26 at the Aberdeen Family YMCA. The Wolves had three athletes take second place in their events as the Dragons won the meet 166-52.

"Our swimmers performed their best and I am happy with their efforts this early in the season," said head coach Elyce Kastigar. "We know we have a lot of work to do and these athletes have demonstrated their commitment to NSU swimming. We now have a beginning and a place to move forward in growing and developing the team."

Renee Speidel (Fr., Watertown, S.D.) finished the 100-yard butterfly in second place with a time of 1:08.15. Lori Iron (So., McLaughlin, S.D.) was the runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke, coming in at 1:09.98, and Kristen Bouwens (Fr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) marked a time of 1:22.10 in the 100-yard breaststroke, good for second place.

In a community that has always supported NSU athletics, the swim team received a warm welcome at its first competition. "I am very happy with this first meet and am overwhelmed with the help from the many volunteers that made the competition possible. It was wonderful to have such great fan support for our first meet," thanked Kastigar.
