WOLVES DROPPED TWICE BY WARRIORS

ROCHESTER, Minn. – Northern State lost at the hands of Winona State in both doubleheaders to start NSIC play. The Wolves fell 15-7 in the first game and 10-0 in the second game, tallying seven runs and 11 hits across both games.

GAME ONE: WINONA STATE 15, NORTHERN STATE 7
  • After trailing 10-2 at the start of the fifth inning, Northern State rallied, recording five runs on four hits in the top of the fifth, featuring a pair of home runs from Tevan Bryant and Sydney Anderson, before Winona State responded with five runs of their own to take the game, 15-7
  • The Wolves recorded seven runs, seven hits, seven RBIs, one double, two home runs and three errors in the outing
  • NSU struggled in the first inning, striking out in their first three at-bats at the top of the inning and allowing five runs in the bottom of the inning
  • Tevan Bryant etched the first run of the game in the second, sending a ball over the right-field fence
  • Corina Coppersmith (walk) and Kennedy Boyer (single) found themselves on base in the inning, but the Wolves were unable to secure any more runs, stranding two runners on the bags

  • After Kinsley Stovdr singled at the top of the fifth, the Wolves quickly tallied two outs, with Alicia Jeanson and Aune Boben both flying out to the outfield
  • Ahead in the count, Madi Jones found herself on base before Alysa Lowe came in to pinch run, but Tevan Bryant made quick work in the following at-bat, sending another ball over the fence for her second home run of the game
  • With Coppersmith on base again, Anderson, similar to Tevan Bryant, recorded a two-RBI home run to put the game within three runs
  • But Winona State kept momentum from the inning before and notched five runs to end the game in five innings
  • Riley O'Connell was credited with the loss, leaving the game after the second out of the first inning
  • Both Tess Miller and Dessa Bryant relieved the freshman, with all NSU pitchers allowing five runs each
