Brookings, S.D. – The Northern State University track and field teams opened the SDSU D2/NAIA Open Friday evening with nine multi competitors between the men's and women's squads, as well as a handful of others in the opening events of the meet.
Morgan Sheldon won the pentathlon with 3,347 points, while Radtke sits first in the heptathlon heading into day two with 2,807 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED FOR THE MEN
- Radtke holds the top spot in the heptathlon with marks of 7.21 in the 60m (personal best), 6.48m in the long jump (personal best), 11.74m in the shot put, and 1.90m in the high jump (personal best)
- Jeffrey Boschee, Sean Juengst, Ross Kortenbusch, and Isaac Ligon rounded out the top-10 after day one
- Boschee has 2,462 points with marks of 7.65 in the 60m, 5.93m in the long jump (personal best), 9.56m in the shot put, and 1.96m in the high jump
- Juengst has 2,388 points with marks of 7.78 in the 06m, 5.91m in the long jump, 10.82 in the shot put (personal best), and 1.84m in the high jump
- Kortenbusch earned 2,372 points with marks of 7.49 in the 60m (personal best), 5.73m in the long jump, 11.75m in the shot put, and 1.69m in the high jump (personal best)
- Ligon scored 2,367 points with marks of 7.40 in the 60m, 5.77m in the long jump (personal best), 11.05m in the shot put, and 1.69m in the high jump
- Gracen Hansen and Luke Campbell took third and eighth in the 300m hurdles with times of 40.58 and 41.59 respectively
- Justin Jacobson and Ethan Barnett added fifth and seventh place finishes in the discus, tossing 46.42m and 46.16m
HOW IT HAPPENED FOR THE WOMEN
- Sheldon won the pentathlon with 3,347 points recording marks of 9.14 in the 60m hurdles, 1.56m in the high jump, 11.19m in the shot put, 5.01m in the long jump, and 2:37.04 in the 800m
- Sheldon tallied a provisional mark in the pentathlon, ranking her in the top-20 nationally in the event
- Tayla Dobrenski finished fourth with 2,926 points, notching marks of 9.44 in the 60m hurdles (personal best), 1.65m in the high jump, 8.75m in the shot put, 4.69m in the long jump, and 2:57.82 in the 800m (personal best)
- Jordan West took 12th with 2,384 points, while Addison Cumbow placed 13th with 2,363 points
- Elisabet Osk Jonsdottir and Emma Hunt took third and fourth in the 300m hurdles with times of 47.57 and 47.97
- Andi Mehrer opened the throwing events with a sixth place finish in the discus, tossing 40.95m
