Wolves Take Down The Mavericks to Start NSIC Play

Sioux Falls, S.D. – The Northern State University baseball team ran away with the 8-3 win against Minnesota State. The Wolves recorded eight runs off of ten hits, with Karson Hesser, Jack Weidner, and Easton Rerick all recording multiple hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Minnesota State was the first to score with two runs in the first inning
  • Brent Hokeness singled to right field to score Karson Hesser in the bottom of the first
  • Michael Benevides tied the game in sixth inning with a double down the right field line to score Easton Rericks
  • Jordan DeMarce knocked a sacrifice fly to score Benevides to give the Wolves the lead in the bottom of the sixth
  • Hokeness reached first on a fielder's choice that scored Nick Friedges to kick off the seventh inning
  • A ground out to second back by Rerick scored Hesser; Benevides reached first base on an error that brought in Hokeness to put the Wolves up by four at the end of the seventh inning
  • The Mavericks responded back in the top of the eighth with a run to trail by three
  • DeMarce scored on a ground out by Friedges to extend the lead
  • Weidner drove one to left field for a double to score Brennan Phillips to put the Wolves up by five
  • Northern State recorded eight runs off of ten hits
