St. Cloud, Minn. – The Northern State University softball team finished out their weekend at the Kelly Laas Memorial Tournament going 1-1 against Sioux Falls and St. Cloud State.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. SIOUX FALLS
- Northern solidified the adage of "you score first and you win" notching one run in the bottom of the first inning on a single to right by Emma Owens scoring Ashley Fauske
- The Wolves extended their lead in the third with a run scored by Lexi Chase on an infield ground ball by Claire Zbylut
- The Cougars cut the lead in half in the fourth scoring on a wild pitch
- NSU added their final run of insurance in the sixth as Owens scored on a Madi Jones pinch hit-single to right center
- NSU scored their three runs on five hits and gave up two defensive errors
- Taylor Coleman led the offense as the lone multiple hit player, going 2-for-3
- Mckenzie Wanner threw her second win as a true freshman, giving up just one earned run on four hits with four strikeouts
- Abby Rux entered, throwing the final two innings of the contest in her first save of 2024
NORTHERN STATE STATISTICAL STANDOUTS
HOW IT HAPPENED vs. ST. CLOUD STATE
- The Wolves jumped out to an early lead in the top of the second as Alexandria Arndt and Avarie Eagle scored on a single to center by Lexi Chase
- Eagle led off the inning with a double to center and Arndt tallied a 1-out infield single
- The Huskies scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the third and the Wolves were unable to respond offensively
- Northern left three runners on base in their final four plate appearances, scoring their two runs on seven hits
- NSU played perfect defense without giving up an error
- Arndt and Chase led the team with two hits, while Eagle notched the lone extra base hit, a double
- Chase kept the Wolves in the contest in her second pitching start of the season, giving up six hits and three earned runs with five strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work; she ultimately suffered the loss

UP NEXT
Northern State will travel to Jamestown, N.D. next Friday and Saturday, February 9-10, for four contests from the Jimmie's dome. The Wolves will face Valley City State and Dickinson State at 4 and 6 p.m. on Friday, and Valley City State and Jamestown at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.
