Northern State Opens TSU Relays Strong Despite Blustery Conditions

Houston, Texas – The Northern State University men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2022-23 outdoor season with three event wins from the opening day of the Texas Southern University Relays. In addition, six Wolves qualified for Saturday finals races. The pole vault and long jump competitions scheduled for Friday have been moved to Saturday due to the weather conditions. 
 
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Noah Bayer just missed finals in the 100m, notching the tenth fastest time of 11.05
  • Seth Martens will race in the finals of the 400m, tallying the second fastest time of 50.83 in prelims
  • Chase Smith ran a personal record of 16:38.80 in the 5000m, taking fourth overall, followed by Jacob Angerhofer in sixth with a time of 16:42.69
  • Noah Ford won the javelin, throwing 47.13m, while Sean Juengst took second with a personal best of 38.04m
 
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Renea Taylor qualified for finals in the 100m with a national time of 11.85 in second overall
  • Morgan Sheldon and Addison Cumbow qualified for finals in the 100m hurdles with times of 15.66 and 17.83 in sixth and seventh
  • Kyanna Collymore and Alli Jackson will be in the finals of the 400m, notching times of 1:00.50 and 1:01.78 in fourth and eighth
  • Summer Carlson rounded out the top-10 of the 400m with a personal record time of 1:02.25
  • Northern swept the top-3 placings in the 5000m, led by Megan Pickering with a race winning time of 19:01.40
  • Pickering was followed by Avery Murray and Jenna Helms in third and fourth with times of 20:36.02 and 22:11.30
  • Cumbow went on to win the javelin, tossing 29.02m, while Kilee Bladow took third with a 22.27m toss 

UP NEXT
Northern State will wrap up the second day of the TSU Relays tomorrow. Competition opens at 9 a.m. from the Alexander Durley Stadium at Texas Southern University.
