Austin, Texas – College Sports Communicators released the 2022-23 Academic All-America® men's basketball teams today, honoring the best and brightest in the NCAA and NAIA. Northern State University senior
Sam Masten earned a spot of the NCAA Division II team, as the 27
th Wolf in school history to earn the award.
Masten is just the second men's basketball student-athlete to be earned as an Academic All-American® for Northern State. The Division II team boasted a 3.85 average GPA with the first team checking in at 3.88. The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Division II Academic All-America® program.
The Highlands Ranch native led Northern State averaging 18.0 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game. He shoots a team best 55.9% from the floor, as well as 40.5% from the 3-point line and 77.6% from the foul line. He scored double figures in every contest this season, recording three double-doubles and one triple double. In addition, Masten sits top-10 in the country in assist/turnover ratio, total assists, and triple-doubles. In 2022-23, Masten is a 6-time NSIC Player of the Week, D2CIDA National Player of the Week, CSC Academic All-District team member, the NSIC North Division Player of the Year, a first team All-NSIC selection, and D2CCA All-District first team honoree.
