Fan Primer: Mavericks and Golden Bears Up Next for Northern State

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University men’s basketball team returns to Wachs Arena this Friday and Saturday for a pair of NSIC South contests versus Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul. This weekend marks the shift in the NSIC basketball schedule where the men will play the first game each day. Tip-off times are set for 5:30 p.m. on Friday against the Mavericks and 4 p.m. on Saturday versus the Golden Bears.

Game Specific Promotions

  • Northern State welcomes Glacial Lakes Energy to the contest on Friday for their annual GLE Night at Wolves basketball
  • Saturday is Youth Night in Wachs Arena. Fans are encouraged to wear their favorite basketball jersey, with all youth admitted free to the contest with a jersey on
  • Northern State also welcomes faculty and staff and Wolves Club members to Saturday's contest for a pair of appreciation nights

Entrances to the Facility & Gate Opening Times

Fans will be able to enter the Barnett Center through both the north and south doors. Access to the south entrance is available through both Dakota Bank Stadium entrances off South State Street and 15th Ave SE. Ticket gates will be located at both the north and south doors of the Barnett Center, and will open one hour prior to tip-off for all general admission and same day ticket sales. Gates will open one hour prior to tip-off each game day. 

 

Online Ticketing

Wolves Club season tickets and general admission passes can be purchased online at nsuwolves.universitytickets.com or at the gate on game day. The fully automated system allows fans to select their seat for game day with tickets sent directly to your email or mobile device. Pricing for season and single game tickets is available at nsuwolves.com/tickets. Senior and youth tickets are only available for purchase at the gate on game days. All game day ticket sales will be available at both the North and South entrances of the Barnett Center. The Northern State passbook will be located at the north doors of the Barnett Center, individuals must sign in via the far right line at the ticket gate. There is no re-entry into the facility.

Current Northern State University students will receive one free ticket to all home sporting events throughout the 2022-23 academic. Information on how to claim student tickets will be distributed via email. 

 

Parking

The first three rows of parking in the Barnett Center main lot will be reserved for Wolves Club members with an annual parking pass, with free parking for all fans available in the following rows to the North.

 

Concessions and Team Store

The Northern State concession stands are operated by Sodexo and offer a wide range of options for fans of all ages. Enjoy an ice-cold Coca-Cola product, bite into a soft pretzel with cheese, a world famous Wolf dog, or walking taco. Don’t forget to grab a freshly made popcorn or batch of Wisconsin cheese curds from one of the concession stands near you at all home Wolves athletic events. The NSU Nike Team Store will be open in its main Barnett Center location on game day, opening one hour prior to tip-off.

NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES

  • Northern returns to Aberdeen with a 13-5 record overall and 9-3 mark in the NSIC following a pair of losses at Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State
  • The Wolves are shooting 46.1% from the floor, 36.9% from the 3-point line, and 78.4% from the foul line this season
  • They are averaging 79.1 points, 35.4 rebounds, 16.1 assists, 9.6 turnovers, 5.3 steals, and 3.3 blocks per game; out-scoring and out-rebounding their opponents by 8.7 points and 1.1 boards per contest
  • Sam Masten leads the team in scoring averaging 17.7 points per game and shooting at a 54.1% clip
  • In addition, Masten has dished out 119 assists this season to lead the team and the NSIC
  • Jacksen Moni and Jordan Belka follow notching 16.2 and 12.8 points per game respectively, with Belka adding a team best 6.8 rebounds per game alongside Masten
  • Augustin Reede leads the squad with 49 made 3-pointers, shooting 43.8% from beyond the arc, and averaging 10.4 points per game
  • Josh Dilling leads the team off the bench adding 8.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game

 

MINNESOTA STATE STORYLINES

  • The Mavericks hold a 13-5 record on the year and 7-5 mark in the NSIC
  • Minnesota State is averaging 80.0 points, 39.4 rebounds, 14.0 assists, 13.3 turnovers, 5.2 steals, and 3.7 blocks per game this season; out-scoring and out-rebounding their foes by 7.1 points and 4.1 boards
  • They are shooting 46.2% from the floor, 37.4% from the 3-point line, and 71.0% from the free throw line this season
  • Malik Willingham leads four averaging double figures, notching 18.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game with a team high 68 assists
  • Kyreese Willingham and Trevor Moore follow notching 13.9 and 13.7 points per game respectively, while Harrison Braudis leads the team off the bench notching 12.3 points and 3.0 rebounds
  • Kelby Kramer is the team leader at the rim notching 6.6 rebounds per game
  • MSU is led by head coach Matt Margenthaler in his 22nd season at the helm
