Wolves Drop Tightly Contested Battle with Minot State

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State women's soccer team was unable to fend off the Minot State offense on Friday night after taking an early lead in the first half. The Beavers capitalized with two late first half goals to score a 2-1 win over Northern.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Northern State got on the scoreboard first in the seventh minute of play as Hannah Smith caught a cross pass from Mia Zagorski and placed the ball into the back of the net
  • Minot State responded with the equalizing goal in the 31st minute of action as Sarah Upton made a diving shot attempt on a free kick that ricocheted off the side post
  • Upton scored her second goal of the game in the 43rd minute as she headed the throw in pass from Sierra Haren over the top of Alexus Townsend's outstretched hand and into the top of the net
  • Megan Fastenau gave the Wolves one last opportunity with a free kick from just outside the box with 16 seconds remaining in the game, however her shot went high and over the top of the goal
  • After being out-shot 9-2 (3-1 shots-on-goal) in the first half, Northern State out-shot the Beavers 10-1 (5-0 shots-on-goal) in the second half and held a 12-10 advantage in the game (6-3 shots-on-goal)
  • Minot State held a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks in the game
