Aberdeen, S.D. – The 2022 season finale for Northern State featured a back and forth battle with Southwest Minnesota State. Unfortunately, a ground ball down the left field line scored the game winning runs for the Mustangs in the ninth inning and earned SMSU a 6-4 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Southwest Minnesota State scored the first run of the game in the top of the second inning when Hunter Krommenhoek singled to the shortstop and Kip Gronholz scored on an error on the play
- Northern State took the lead for the first time in the bottom of the third inning with three runs of their own
- Isaiah Chevalier and Austin Portner scored the first two runs of the inning when Karson Hesser reached base on a throwing error by the SMSU shortstop
- The third run of the inning came thanks to another Mustang error, this time when Spencer Sarringar reached on another error by the shortstop, allowing Hesser to score
- The Mustangs tied the game in the top of the fifth inning with a pair of singles through the left side of the infield by Max Kalenberg and Gronholz
- The Wolves regained the lead for the final time in the bottom of the sixth inning with an RBI single up the middle by Brandon Kusler, scoring Zachary Lanier to give NSU a 4-3 lead
- The Mustangs tied the game in the seventh inning as Chase McDaniel crossed home plate in the middle of a 4-6-3 double play by the Northern defense
- SMSU scored the two game winning runs in the top of the ninth inning as Kalenberg placed a ground ball down the left field line and scored Jaxon Haase and McDaniel
- Northern State scored their four runs on eight hits and committed three errors defensively
- Max Otto started his 11th game of the season on the mound, pitching 5.0 innings and striking out five batters
- Andrew Pugliano suffered the loss for the Wolves, pitching 3.0 innings to close the game and struck out one batter
