Wolves Softball Unable to Capitalize in Marshall

Marshall, Minn. – The Northern State University softball team dropped a pair of NSIC road contests on Saturday to Southwest Minnesota State. The Wolves had their opportunities in each contest, however were unable to stifle the Mustang offense and execute when they had runners in scoring position.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1
  • The Mustangs took a 5-0 lead through the first three innings, notching three runs in the second and two in the third
  • Northern recorded their first run of the contest on a first and third situation that scored Alexandria Arndt in the fourth
  • SMSU added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth via long ball, taking a 7-1 lead over the Wolves
  • Arndt scored the team's second and final run of the contest in the sixth, on a double to left center field by Avarie Eagle
  • The Wolves scored their two runs on six hits and gave up two errors defensively
  • Abigail started for NSU, suffering the loss with seven hits, seven runs (five earned), and two strikeouts in six innings of work

  • Northern struck first in game two in the top of the fifth inning with a run from Shelby Novotny
  • Southwest responded in the bottom of the frame, notching three runs for the lead

  • NSU tallied seven hits in the game, out-hitting SMSU in the contest, and leaving nine runners on base
  • Meghan Anderson gave up three earned runs in the circle, notching six strikeouts in the loss
