No. 13 Vikings to Much For Wolves in Friday Doubleheader

Sioux Falls, S.D. – The Northern State University softball team was swept by the No. 13 team in the country Friday afternoon. The Wolves tallied eight runs and 12 hits against Augustana University in the two games, but were unable to stifle the powerful Viking offense.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1
  • Augustana jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second and added six more runs in the third
  • Northern answered back with two runs of their own in the third on an Avarie Eagle homerun, scoring Liv Richardson
  • The Vikings tacked on three more runs in the fourth and four in the sixth
  • Richardson notched a solo homerun of her own in the fifth and Abigail Rux scored on a single down the right field line by Hannah Smith
  • The Wolves tallied their final run of the contest in the sixth, on a single up the middle by Richardson, scoring Jessi Hernandez
  • NSU recorded their five runs on nine hits in the game with three Wolves recording two hits apiece
  • Meghan Anderson started for the Wolves and suffered the loss, giving up seven earned runs on 12 hits with three strikeouts
  • Rux entered to throw the final 2.2 innings, giving up four earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts

  • The Wolves struck first in the game, notching one run in the bottom of the first on a homerun to left by Shelby Novotny
  • Augustana quickly answered back with 12 runs in the second, leaving NSU a large deficit to overcome
  • Northern added a pair of runs in the second which concluded their scoring in the contest, as Alexandria Arndt connected with a 2-run bomb to center
  • The Vikings added one run in the third, four in the fourth, and one in the fifth to seal the game
  • Abigail Rux started the contest, giving up six earned runs on five hits in the loss
  • Both Reagan Elrod and Meghan Anderson entered in relief for NSU
