Wolves End Beavers Win Streak in Doubleheader Sweep

Yankton, S.D. – The day started with a come from behind victory for Northern State to end Minot State's 11 game win streak and ended with an extra inning thriller, as the Wolves defeated the Beavers by scores of 11-7 and 6-5. In the first game Northern came from behind to score 11 unanswered runs, and they carried the momentum into the second game where the offense notched three homeruns in the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
  • Minot State started the day strong, scoring two runs in the third inning and followed that up with a five run fifth inning
  • The Northern State bats came to life in the sixth inning when the Wolves offense erupted for eight runs in the inning
  • The rally started when Ramon Vega Jr. singled to left field and scored Karson Hesser and Jack Paulson
  • After having both Spencer Sarringar and Vega Jr. score on fielder's choice plays, a two RBI double by Reece Ragatz brough home Gus Radal and Connor Knecht to tie the game at seven
  • The originally scheduled seven inning game went into extra innings and saw Northern score four runs in the top of the ninth to take the lead and secure the victory
  • A single by Paulson scored Niko Pezonella and gave the Wolves the lead for good
  • A sacrafice fly by Sarringar scored Paulson and NSU capped off the game with two RBI single by Isaiah Chevalier to score Zachary Lanier and Vega Jr.
  • Northern State scored their 11 runs on 13 hits and did not commit an error defensively
  • Andrew Pugliano earned his first win of the season after entering in relief in the seventh inning, Blake Ask and Seth Brewer also pitched in relief and did not allow any runs in the game

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
  • Northern State kept riding their momentum from game one into the start of the second game, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning
  • Reece Ragatz hit a double to score Karson Hesser, and Spencer Sarringar scored on a pop fly by Ramon Vega Jr.
  • Minot State scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the second when Derek Kay doubled to left field and scored Drew Behling
  • The Wolves added three more runs in the top the third with a pair of homeruns; Sarringar hit a 2-run homerun that scored Hesser, and Ragatz hit a solo homerun to make the score 5-1
  • Minot battled back to tie the game at five, scoring three runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth inning
  • Sarringar hit his second homerun of the game in the top of the tenth inning, clinching the win and the doubleheader sweep
  • Northern State scored their six runs on nine hits and committed one error defensively
  • Seth Brewer earned his first win of the season, entering the game in relief in the eighth inning
