Black Hills Takes Two From Northern State

Spearfish, S.D. – The Northern State University softball team suffered a pair of loss on the road at Black Hills State on Wednesday. The Wolves dropped to 8-14 on the year, as they closed out non-conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1
  • Black Hills grabbed their lone run of the contest in the bottom of the fourth on an error by the Wolves outfield
  • Northern suffered three errors defensively and tallied just two hits on offense
  • The Yellow Jackets scored their one run on seven hits with two errors
  • Meghan Anderson suffered her seventh loss of the season, despite striking out nine in the contest

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2
  • The Yellow Jackets jumped out to an early lead, notching 11 runs in their first at-bats of the contest
  • Northern chipped away through the opening frames, notching two runs in the second and three in the third
  • Alexandria Arndt blasted a homerun down the left field line to open the scoring for NSU, and Hannah Smith singled in Shelby Novotny in the second
  • Scoring for the Wolves in the third were Claire Zbylut on a sacrifice fly by Kamdyn Barrientos, and Arndt and Novotny on a homerun to left center by Novotny
  • Black Hills State answered back with a run in the bottom of the third, extending their lead to 12-5
  • Barrientos tallied the team's final run of the contest in the fifth on an error by the shortstop, however BHSU secured the run-rule victory with two runs in the bottom of the frame
  • The Wolves tallied six runs on seven hits, without giving up an error defensively
  • Abigail Rux suffered the loss after a tough start, where the freshman gave up eight earned runs on eight hits
