Northern State Offense Lights Up ThunderWolves in Game One Win

Pueblo, Colo. – The Northern State University softball team tallied a game one victory on the road at CSU Pueblo before falling in game two. The Wolves recorded their third straight split as the visiting team versus the ThunderWolves.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1
  • Northern scored their 11 runs on 14 hits in game one, notching one run in the second, four in the third, one in the fifth, four in the sixth, and one in the seventh
  • Pueblo tallied the first run of the contest in the bottom of the first, however Ashley Fauske and Claire Zbylut knotted things up in the following frame on a single through the left side by Fauske
  • The ThunderWolves regained the lead with two runs in the second, however the Wolves quickly answered back
  • NSU notched four runs in the third from Kamdyn Barrientos, Avarie Eagle, and Liv Richardson
  • Zyblut recorded her second run scored in the top of the fifth, on a suicide squeeze by Elly Smith
  • CSU-P added their final run of the contests in the fifth and the Wolves extended their lead with five more in the sixth and seventh
  • Scoring for the Wolves in the sixth were Eagle, Barrientos, Richardson, and Zbylut
  • Barrientos added another run scored in the seventh on a solo shot to left field
  • Meghan Anderson improved to 6-4 on the year with a complete game win; the sophomore tallied nine strikeouts, giving up three earned runs on two hits

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2
  • The Wolves tallied their two runs on six hits in the loss, leaving eight total runners on base
  • Avarie Eagle struck first for Northern State, scoring Kamdyn Barrientos on a double to right field in the top of the first
  • CSU-P tied the game up in the bottom of the first and the Wolves regained the lead in the top of the third
  • Barrientos plated Ashley Fauske on a single to left center
  • The ThunderWolves answered back, grabbing a 1-run lead in the bottom of the frame and extended that lead with one run in both the fifth and sixth innings
  • Abigail Rux started for the Wolves and ultimately suffered the loss, giving up three earned runs on eight this with five strikeouts
