Track and Field Scheduled for 2-Day NDSU Bison Open

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University track and field teams travel to Fargo this Friday and Saturday for the NDSU Bison Open. The meet is slated to begin at 11 a.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday with the multi events. Full competition kicks off at 3 p.m. on Friday and 12 p.m. on Saturday from the Shelly Ellig Indoor Track and Field Facility.

NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES
  • Northern is coming off a solid Saturday at the Mount Marty Invite last weekend
  • The Wolves recorded five event victories from Tanner Berg (weight throw), Sam Tremelling (pole vault), Kenzee Danielson (pole vault), Sierra Sweeney (triple jump), and Summer Carlson (800m)
  • In total, NSU recorded 48 top-10 finishes at the meet between the men's and women's programs
  • Northern is three meets out from the NSIC Championships set for February 25-26; athletes must rank in the top-30 (top-24 for the 200m/400m) of their event to qualify for the NSIC meet
 
WOLVES WITH NATIONAL MARKS
  • Tanner Berg is ranked first nationally in the weight throw with a provisional mark of 22.58m, and also ranks 23rd in the shot put with a 16.75m toss
  • Shona Juliana sits in 16th in the triple jump with her provisional mark of 12.02m and 22nd in the long jump with a 5.72m mark
  • Glen Quayle is currently 17th in the pole vault, clearing 4.90m
 
SCHOOL RECORD WATCH
  • Juliana broke the triple jump school record at the SDSU Holiday Open with a mark of 12.02m; the previous record of 11.46m was set by Monique Ryckman in 1987
  • Juliana then broke her own school record in the long jump to open 2022 with a 5.73m mark
  • Jennifer Clark broke the 800m record of 2:19.93 set by Makayla Perryman in 2013
  • Jackson Harrison's time of 14:37.79 broke the 16 year old record of 14:38.11 held by Jeremy VanVleen
  • Glen Quayle surpassed the previous pole vault record of 4.80m set by Ross Pfeifle in 2009
  • Tanner Berg topped his own school record in the weight throw, tossing 22.58m, which is the third best throw all-time at the Division II level
