Burnsville, Minn. – The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference released the 2021-22 All-Conference Wrestling teams earlier today, with two Northern State Wolves named.
Wyatt Turnquist earned a first team nod, while
Kolton Roth was honored on the second team.
The all-conference teams were selected by the league coaches with the top point receivers at each weight class being named first team and the next named to the second team. The NSIC Wrestler of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year will be selected by the league coaches and announced following the NCAA Division II Championships.
Turnquist tallied the first team award at 149 pounds. He posts a team best 16-2 record in 2021-22, and perfect 9-0 record in the NSIC. The Winner native tallied nationally ranked victories over No. 4 Speelman of Augustana and No. 7 Bailey of UIndy. In addition, the junior is ranked eighth in the most recent NWCA individual rankings.
Roth was honored on the second team at 141 pounds. He holds a 9-5 season record and finished the league slate with a 5-2 mark. The senior has nationally ranked victories over No. 12 Carroll of Augustana and No. 7 Murdy of Upper Iowa. In addition, he is currently ranked 11
th in the NWCA individual rankings.
The Wolves are back in action at the NCAA Super Region V tournament, which takes place Saturday from the campus of MSU Moorhead. NCAA Super Region V is made up of the ten NSIC wrestling institutions. The top three finishers in each weight class will advance to the NCAA Championships on March 11-12 in St. Louis, Missouri.
