Canyon, Texas – The Northern State University softball team dropped a pair of contest to Lone Star Conference opponents Texas Permian Basin and (RV) Texas A&M-Commerce on Friday. The Wolves battled in each loss, scoring a combined 16 runs on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1

• It was a high scoring affair between the Wolves and Falcons who combined for 22 runs scored and 25 hits
• Northern tallied their nine runs on 11 hits with one error defensively, scoring in the third, fifth, and sixth innings
• Permian Basin got out to a 4-0 lead, before the Wolves chipped away with two runs in the bottom of the third
• Liv Richardson tallied a homerun and Alexandria Arndt scored Elly Smith on a triple to left center
• The Falcons extended their lead in the fourth and fifth, notching two runs apiece
• The Wolves recorded their biggest inning of the contest in the fifth, scoring four runs on a throwing error by the pitcher and 3-run blast by Avarie Eagle
• Jessi Hernandez, Claire Zyblut, and Richardson crossed the plate for the final three runs of the game for NSU in the bottom of the sixth
• Zyblut, Richardson, Shelby Novotny, and Hernandez each tallied a team leading two hits in the game
• Reagan Elrod started for Northern State, suffering her first loss of the season with 12 earned runs and 14 hits

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2

• Northern State recorded seven runs on six hits against the Lions, however suffered five errors which resulted in five unearned runs
• The Wolves tallied two runs in the second, three in the fourth, one in the sixth, and one in the seventh
• Alexandria Arndt and Hannah Smith tallied the first runs of the game for the Wolves in the second, taking a 2-1 lead
• Arndt, Avarie Eagle, and H. Smith extended the Wolves lead in the fourth, however the Lions broke things open in the bottom of the inning with seven runs of their own
• Commerce added two more runs in the fifth and the Wolves tallied a homerun by Elly Smith in the sixth and single up the middle by H. Smith, scoring Eagle in the seventh
• Meghan Anderson suffered her first loss of the season, giving up six earned on nine hits with eight strikeouts
