Ian Marshall Lands AFCA All-America First Team Honors

12/12/2022 10:40:00 AM

WACO, TEXAS — The American Football Coaches' Association Announced their 2022 All-America teams today with Northern State defensive lineman Ian Marshall named to the first team. The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945 and currently selects teams in all five of its divisions. What makes these teams so special is that they are the only ones chosen exclusively by the men who know the players the best — the coaches themselves.

Coming off honors from the NSIC and D2CCA, Marshall earned the first All-America award of his career. He led the NSIC in both tackles for a loss (24.5) and sacks (14.0), totaling 39 tackles on the year. He ranks third in the nation in tackles for a loss and sacks. The Springfield native broke the Northern State single game (4.0) and single season (14.0) sacks records in 2022, and sits third on the NSU all-time sacks list after just one season. He added one fumble recovery and four quarterback hurries.

Marshall was honored on the D2CCA All-Region team and as the Super Region 4 Defensive Player of the Year. In addition, he earned both NSIC Defensive Newcomer and NSIC Defensive Player of the Year honors for the league. He is the 51st All-American in program history for the Wolves

The AFCA's Division II?All-America Selection Committee is made up of three head coaches from each of the AFCA's seven districts, one of whom serves as a district chairman, along with another head coach who serves as the chairman of the selection committee. The coaches in each district are responsible for ranking the top players in their respective districts prior to a conference call between the district chairmen and the committee chairman on which the teams are chosen.
