Aberdeen, S.D. – Northern State University Head Football Coach
Mike Schmidt announced today the addition of Dwayne Holloway II to his staff as the defensive line coach. Holloway joins NSU following three seasons on staff at the University of Minnesota.
"Coach Holloway is a breath of fresh air," said Schmidt. "He lights up any room he walks into and has truly earned this opportunity. Having worked around some of the game's top coaches, he knows exactly what elite defensive line play looks like."
"I am beyond grateful and excited to impact the lives of our student-athletes on and off the football field," explained Holloway. "I am thankful to Coach Schmidt to lead his defensive line, #GoWolves."
Holloway served as a defensive line intern for the Gophers on PJ Fleck's staff. In his three seasons, the U of M produced six All-Big ten recipients, including 2025 first team selection Anthony Smith. Smith led the Big Ten and ranked seventh in the country in sacks and was second in the league in tackles for a loss. The Gophers ranked 11th in the nation in 2025 in sacks and sat top-10 in the Big Ten in sacks defense, total defense, passing defense, and rushing defense between the 2023 and 2024 seasons. In addition, Jah Joyner and Deven Eastern received invites to the senior bowl and combine following the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
Schmidt added, "Gratitude is one of the core values in our program, and Coach Holloway embodies it. He's grateful to join our staff and will show up every day ready to serve our student-athletes with that same spirit."
Holloway holds a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies from Herzing University. He competed collegiately at Mayville State University as a defensive end and defensive tackle. He was a 2015 defensive team captain for the Comets and earned the SparkPlug Award given to the most impactful freshman. Holloway closed out his career with 11 sacks at MSU.
