Wolves Close Gypsy Days Weekend with Draw Against SMSU

Aberdeen, S.D. – Northern State and Southwest Minnesota State battled to a 2-2 draw on Sunday afternoon. The Wolves erased an early first half deficit and briefly took the lead in the second half, but the Mustangs found a late goal to leave Aberdeen with a tie.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Southwest Minnesota State's Alex Lotts opened the scoring with a goal in the 19th minute, collecting a pass from Heley Mason that was just out of the reach of Northern State goalkeeper Alexus Townsend and Lotts was able to score in the empty net
  • The Wolves evened the game at one goal apiece early in the second half in the 49th minute as Megan Fastenau found DeAnna LeMire in front of the goal with a cross-pass from the corner and LeMire netted her first goal of the season
  • Hannah Smith gave NSU the 2-1 lead in the 61st minute as Mia Zagorski found Smith cutting up the sideline with an open look at the net
  • The Mustangs were able to even the game at two in the 76th minute as Sandra Kraling was able to find Mason cutting towards the net and was able to sneak the ball into the net
  • Northern State held the advantage in shots (14-9) and shots-on-goal (8-6), while Southwest Minnesota State held the edge in corner kick attempts (4-2)
