Fan Primer: Wolves Welcome Cougars and Mustangs to Aberdeen for Gypsy Days Weekend

Aberdeen, S.D. â€“ The Northern State women’s soccer team will play host to Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State for two home matches during Gypsy Days this weekend. The Wolves and Cougars open the weekend slate with a 6 p.m. match on Friday evening, and the Wolves and Mustangs will close out the weekend competition with a 1 p.m. match on Sunday afternoon.

Game Specific Promotions

  • Friday's contest is Neon Night
    • Fans with a valid soccer ticket receive free admission to Friday night's volleyball match, and fans with a valid volleyball ticket receive free admission to Friday night's soccer match
  • Sunday's contest is a Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day
    • All NSU faculty/staff will receive free admission into Sunday's soccer match

 

Online Ticketing

Wolves Club season tickets and general admission passes can be purchased online at nsuwolves.universitytickets.com or at the gate on game day. The fully automated system allows fans to select their seat for game day with tickets sent directly to your email or mobile device. Pricing for season and single game tickets is available at nsuwolves.com/tickets. Senior and youth tickets are only available for purchase at the gate on game days. All game day ticket sales will be available at the main entrance to the Athletic & Recreation Fields for soccer.

Current Northern State University students will receive one free ticket to all home sporting events throughout the 2022-23 academic. Information on how to claim student tickets will be distributed via email. 

 

Entrances to the Facility & Gate Opening Times

Fans should enter through the main gates of 14th Ave SW on game day. The ticket tent, located just inside the fence, will open one hour prior to kick-off for all general admission and same day ticket sales. Individuals included in the Northern State passbook must sign in with the ticket personnel.  There is no re-entry into the facility.

 

Parking

Parking for all home Northern State soccer contests is free for all fans. Fans are encouraged to park on the North end of the Barnett Center lot and walk to the main gate of the Athletics & Recreation Fields. Limited parking is available outside of the facility on 14th Ave SW. 

 

Concessions

The Northern State concession stands are operated by Sodexo and offer a wide range of options for fans of all ages. Enjoy an ice-cold Coca-Cola product, bite into a soft pretzel with cheese, a world famous Wolf dog, or walking taco. Don’t forget to grab a freshly made popcorn or batch of Wisconsin cheese curds from one of the concession stands near you at all home Wolves athletic events. NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES

  • Northern State enters the weekend with a record of 5-3-3 (3-2-3 NSIC), and the Wolves are currently tied for seventh in the league standings
  • Last weekend Northern went 1-1, falling to Minot State (2-1) before winning a regionally ranked match-up over UMary (1-0)
  • Northern State made their second consecutive appearance in the United Soccer Coaches Central Region Top-10 this week, moving up one spot to No. 9
  • Hannah Smith leads the Wolves with ten points this season from five goals, while Megan Fastenau is second on the team with seven points from three goals and one assist
  • In NSIC action Smith is tied for second in the league in goals (5) and game-winning goals (2)
  • Avery Blasdel and Mia Zagorski have each recorded a team high of two assists this season
  • Alexus Townsend has recorded a team high 46 saves for a 0.902 save percentage and 0.52 goals-against average
  • Townsend is second in the NSIC with a 0.895 save percentage in league play
  • Townsend ranks in the top-25 nationally in three different stat categories, ranking sixth in save percentage (0.902), 21st in goals-against average (0.515), and is tied for 21st in shutouts (5)
  • As a team Northern State ranks top-25 nationally in five stat categories, ranking fourth in save percentage (0.909), tied for ninth in goals-against average (0.455), tied for tenth in total shutouts (7), tied for 11th in shutout percentage (0.636), and are 23rd in fewest fouls per game (6.27)

 

SIOUX FALLS STORYLINES

  • Sioux Falls enters the weekend still searching for their first win of the season with a record of 0-8-3 (0-5-3 NSIC), and the Cougars are currently 15th in the league standings
  • Last weekend USF lost a pair of road matches at Augustana (6-0) and Wayne State (1-0)
  • Sioux Falls is the only school in NCAA Division II to have yet to score a goal this season, they have been outscored by their opponents 22-0
  • In 11 games this season, the Cougars have been outshot by their opponents 208-46 and 122-24 shots-on-goal
  • Aundria Vargas leads USF with 12 shot attempts, eight of which have been shots-on-goal
  • Holli Knudsen and Caroline Titze rank first and second in saves per game in NSIC play, in four games each Knudsen has made 9.50 saves per game and Titze has made 9.00 saves per game
  • With each goalkeeper having played in six regular season matches, Knudsen ranks second nationally with 8.50 saves per game and Titze ranks fifth nationally with 7.83 saves per game
  • As a team USF ranks third nationally in saves per game with an average of 9.09 per game
  • Brittany Domino is in her eighth season as the head coach at USF and holds a career record of 22-78-18

 

LAST MATCH-UP

  • Northern State battled Sioux Falls to a 0-0 draw on the road in last year’s match-up on October 15, 2021
  • The Wolves lead the all-time series 11-4-2, and have won the last four meetings played in Aberdeen dating back to 2013

 

SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE STORYLINES

  • Southwest Minnesota State enters the weekend with a record of 1-4-6 (1-4-3 NSIC), and the Mustangs are currently tied for 12th in the league standings
  • Last weekend the Mustangs went 0-1-1 on the road, earning a draw at Wayne State (1-1) before falling to Augustana (4-1)
  • Alex Lotts leads SMSU with eight points this season from a team high three goals and two assists; Kirsten Wetterstrom is second on the team with six points from two goals and two assists
  • Lotts is second in the NSIC in shots-on-goal attempted in league play with 15
  • Lotts ranks fifth nationally in shot accuracy as she has placed 17 of 23 shots attempts on-goal this season for a 0.739 shots-on-goal percentage
  • As a team SMSU ranks sixth nationally in shot accuracy, placing 63 of 100 shot attempts on-goal this season for a 0.630 shots-on-goal percentage
  • Rachel Hicks is the Mustangs top goalkeeper, starting and playing in eight of the 11 games this season, Hicks has made 33 saves for a 0.846 save percentage and 0.75 goals-against average
  • Clay Glasgow is in his first season as the head coach at Southwest Minnesota after spending the previous eight season as the head women’s soccer coach at Dakota Wesleyan, he holds a career record of 50-90-11 during his time with the Tigers and Mustangs
