Postseason Bound Wolves Set Sights on Minot State in Quarterfinals

Aberdeen, S.D. – Northern State looks to get their postseason run started with a NSIC Quarterfinal match-up with the fourth seeded Minot State Beavers on Monday afternoon. The Wolves and Beavers will kick-off at 4 p.m. at Herb Parker Stadium in Minot, North Dakota.

NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES
  • Northern State enters the quarterfinal round of the NSIC Tournament with a record of 9-4-5 (7-3-5 NSIC)
  • The Wolves defeated MSU Moorhead (3-0) on Thursday evening to secure their conference tournament bid, the win also improved the Wolves record in October to 5-1-2
  • Northern State is making their 15th appearance in the NSIC Women's Soccer Tournament, the Wolves hold a record of 8-14-2 in the tournament
  • NSU is making consecutive appearances in the conference tournament for the first time since they qualified 12 straight seasons from 1998-2009; Northern is searching for their first postseason win since a 2-0 victory at Augustana in the 2008 NSIC Tournament Quarterfinals

  • Three players have also recorded multiple assists this season for Northern as Fastenau leads the team with four assists and Zagorski and Avery Blasdel each have three and two assists respectively
  • Alexus Townsend has grabbed 76 saves for a 0.894 save percentage and 0.55 goals against-average, Townsend has also notched eight shutouts this season
  • Individually, Townsend ranks in the top-25 nationally in three different categories, ranking eighth in save percentage (0.894), 22nd in goals-against average (0.546), and is tied for 22nd in shutouts (8)
  • As a team Northern ranks in the top-25 nationally in five different categories, ranking fourth in save percentage (0.900), eighth in fewest fouls per game (5.56), tied for eighth in total shutouts (11), tied for 14th in goals-against average (0.500), tied for 18th in shutout percentage (0.611)
MINOT STATE STORYLINES
  • Minot State enters the quarterfinal round of the NSIC Tournament with a record of 8-2-8 (8-1-6 NSIC)
  • The Beavers enter postseason play having played a pair of scoreless draws against Bemidji State and UMary in their last two matches; MSU has not lost a match since a 1-0 loss against Minnesota Duluth on September 9
  • Minot is making their eighth NSIC Tournament appearance in program history, and holds a record of 6-7-1 in the tournament with a championship in 2012
  • Chloe Allan is the only player with double-digit points for Minot State this season, she leads the team with five goals

  • The Beavers led the NSIC in conference play in fewest goals allowed (3), opponent scoring average (0.20), and save percentage (0.958); Kindred led the NSIC in goals-against average (0.200) and shutouts (12)
LAST MATCH-UP
  • Minot State came from behind to win the regular season match-up on September 30 by a score of 2-1 with two goals late in the first half
  • Hannah Smith scored the opening goal of the game in the seventh minute off an assist from Mia Zagorski
