Wolves Baseball Drops Two at No. 24 Minnesota Crookston

Crookston, Minn. – The Northern State University baseball team dropped two contests versus No. 24 Minnesota Crookston on Wednesday afternoon. The Wolves tallied a combined nine runs in the two games, however six errors and timely hitting by the Golden Eagles led to their demise.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Ramon Vega Jr. singled to center in the top of the first, scoring Justin Hutter for the Wolves first runs of the game
  • Crookston took the lead in the bottom of the second with two runs and extended that lead with two more runs in the third, fourth, and fifth
  • The Wolves added one run in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Reece Ragatz, plating Spencer Sarringar
  • With the Golden Eagles holding a 9-0 lead heading into the top of the seventh, Northern mounted an impressive rally, but closed out the game on a double play with bases loaded
  • In the seventh, Justin Hutter scored Ben Carolin and Jackson Paul on a single to right and Vega Jr. scored Alex Gauer and Hutter on a single to center
  • Brian Baker suffered the loss for NSU, giving up six runs (four earned) in four innings of work

  • Crookston took an early 3-run lead in the bottom of the first inning
  • Northern chipped away in the top of the second on a RBI groundout by Isaiah Chevalier, scoring Spencer Sarringar
  • The Golden Eagles extended their lead in the third and fourth with a combined six runs
  • The Wolves added two more in the top of the fifth by Kai Brisk, scoring on a Reece Ragatz triple, and Ragatz scoring on a Ramon Vega Jr. single
  • UMC closed out the run-rule victory in the sixth, adding four runs and then holding the Wolves scoreless in the seventh
  • Seth Brewer suffered his first loss of the season, giving up three earned runs in the bottom of the fifth
