Softball Splits with Sioux Falls in NSIC Action

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University softball team split with the University of Sioux Falls on Saturday from Moccasin Creek Complex. The Wolves tallied a victory in game one, however suffered a run-rule loss in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Northern State scored first with two runs in the bottom of the third on a single to center by Makenzie Merritt, plating Emily Charchuk, and a first-and-third steal play scoring Ashley Fauske
  • The Cougars quickly knotted the game up in the top of the fourth, however the Wolves were not done
  • NSU put together a 5-run, 6-hit fourth inning, taking a 7-2 lead
  • Charchuk, Jessi Hernandez, and Chanel Siebenthal tallied the first runs of the inning on a base clearing double by Emma Terveer
  • Rachel Reinke stepped to the plate the following at-bat and belted a 2-run homerun to right center, sending the outfield crowd scattering
  • Wolves starter Meghan Anderson held the Cougars scoreless in the final three innings, grabbing her tenth win of the 2021 season
  • In total, Northern recorded seven runs on 12 hits, without giving up an error defensively

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It was all Sioux Falls in the second game as the Cougars tallied four runs in the fourth and ten in the fifth
  • Chanel Siebenthal singled through the left side scoring Rachel Reinke in the fourth and Elly Smith launched a solo homerun in the fifth for the Wolves two runs
  • Northern tallied two runs on three hits and suffered one error on defense
  • Elyse Cuttic suffered her fourth loss of the season giving up eight earned runs in 4.1 innings of work
