Minot State Grabs Two from Northern State Baseball

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University baseball team dropped a pair of contests to Minot State on Saturday from Fossum Field. Northern lost an extra-inning heartbreaker in game one and was unable to tame the Beaver offense in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Karson Hesser singled in Spencer Sarringar in the bottom of the second for the Wolves first run of the game
  • Justin Hutter scored on an error by the shortstop and Ramon Vega Jr. crossed home plate on a single down the left field line by Alex Gauer in the fourth, giving NSU a 3-0 lead
  • Minot answered back with one in the top of the fifth, however the Wolves and Isaiah Chevalier were not done
  • Chevalier blasted his first homerun of the season in the bottom of the fifth to right
  • The Beavers notched three runs in the sixth, tying the game, and held the Wolves scoreless in the final two frames of regulation to force extra innings
  • Minot State sealed the victory in the eighth notching two runs and holding the Wolves at bay
  • Zach Hartford suffered the loss, throwing two complete innings, while Zach Hrvol notched a no-decision giving up four runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings pitched
  • Hrvol added seven strikeouts as well

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Minot State took the 1-0 lead in their first at-bats of the contest, which held until the fourth inning
  • The Beavers broke things open in the fourth, scoring five runs on four hits; and tacked on another two runs in the fifth and five in the sixth
  • Nike Pezonella notched his first homerun of the season in the bottom of the fourth, a long ball to right center field which brought the Wolves within five
  • Ramon Vega Jr. and Ben Carolin added homeruns of their own in the fifth and seventh innings, however it was not enough to overcome the deficit
  • Max Otto dropped to 2-1 on the year, giving up six runs on eight hits in four innings of work
