Northern State Splits with Mount Marty on Opening Day

Yankton, S.D. – The Northern State University baseball team opened the season this afternoon at Mount Marty, dropping game one and taking game two. The Wolves tallied a combined eight hits in the two seven inning games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Northern State scored first notching three runs in the top of the fourth
  • Isaiah Chevalier and Ben Carolin led off the inning with a walk and single to right
  • Spencer Sarringar plated all three runs for the Wolves on his first homerun of the season to center
  • The Lancers battled back with two runs in the bottom of the frame and tacked on four in the fifth and three in the sixth to seal the victory
  • Zach Hrvol suffered his first loss of the season on the hill giving up five earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Wolves scored in their first at-bats of game two, notching two runs
  • Reece Ragatz double to left, scoring Spencer Sarringar who tallied a 1-out walk, and Ragatz came around to score on a Ben Carolin single to right
  • Northern added two more runs in the top of the fifth, as Spencer Sarringar notched a single to left and came around to score
  • Kai Brisk also tallied the first run of his career, crossing home plate on a Carolin single to left
  • NSU tallied four runs on six hits with one error defensively
  • Seth Brewer started on the bump for the Wolves, throwing his first win of the 2021 season
