Aberdeen, SD – The No. 1-seeded Northern State University men's basketball team (18-1) will play familiar opponent No. 5-seeded MSU Moorhead (11-4) in the Central Region semifinals of the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship tomorrow at 5 p.m. from Wachs Arena.
This will be the fourth game in three weeks between the Wolves and the Dragons, with NSU winning the most recent matchup 78-57 in the NSIC/Sanford Health Basketball Tournament championship game. The two teams split the final two games of the regular season in Aberdeen and ended with the best records in the NSIC.
Northern earned a first-round bye as the tournament field decreased from 64 to 48 teams across the eight regions with the top-2 seeds automatically advancing to the regional semifinals. The Wolves come off their fourth straight NSIC championship and are making their fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
Mason Stark led the Wolves in scoring in the NSIC Tournament with over 21 points per game on 57.5% shooting, earning him the tournament MVP award.
Tommy Chatman,
Andrew Kallman and
Parker Fox accompanied Stark on the All-Tournament Team.
MSU Moorhead advanced to the regional semifinals with an 84-72 win over Wayne State College earlier today. The Dragons are making their first NCAA Tournament appearance since the 2016-17 season and advanced to the Elite 8 in the 2014-15 season.
If the Wolves advance, they will face the winner of the defending national champions No. 2 Northwest Missouri State and No. 3 Washburn, Tuesday night with a chance to punch a ticket to the Elite 8 in Evansville, Indiana.
