2/18/2021 8:33:00 AM

Aberdeen, S.D. - The Northern State University men's basketball team (14-0, 12-0 NSIC) can clinch the No. 1 seed in the NSIC North Division with a win in one of the final two games of the regular season as they face MSU Moorhead (8-2, 8-0 NSIC) this weekend. It will be the Wolves fourth straight NSIC North Division Championship as well. Friday's game will tip-off at 7 p.m. with Saturday's tip-off slated for 4 p.m. in the regular-season finale from Wachs Arena.

The Wolves extended their school record winning streak to 23 games last weekend with commanding victories over Minot State by scores of 87-77 and 75-64. Northern also remains the second-ranked team in the nation for the sixth week in a row.

Fox tallied a season-high 31 points Friday night against the Beavers in a game that produced one of the most efficient halves for the Wolves all season. NSU scored 52 points in the first half on 18 field goals and 14 assists.

Despite the undefeated season and national ranking, Northern has not yet clinched the top seed in the NSIC North Division.

MSU Moorhead has a winning streak of their own, winning eight straight after dropping the first two games of the season in a cross-division series with Augustana. The Dragons are 8-2 overall but 8-0 in the division, placing them tied for first with Northern in the NSIC North.

MSU Moorhead now leads the conference in margin of victory at 13.1 per game, leads the division in points per game and ranks just behind Northern for the top field goal percentage in the NSIC. The Dragons have four players averaging double figures scoring, headlined by junior guard Lorenzo McGhee who averages over 15 points per contest.

If the Wolves maintain the top seed in the division, they will face the fourth-ranked team in the NSIC South in the quarterfinals of the NSIC/Sanford Health Men's Basketball Tournament starting Thursday, February 25 from the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls.
