Wolves Fall at Bemidji State in First Round of NSIC Tournament

Bemidji, Minn. – The Northern State women's soccer team fell in the opener of the NSIC Tournament at Bemidji State 2-0. The difference in the game came down to two penalty kick goals for the Beavers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Erin Becker gave Bemidji State a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute of play, scoring off a penalty kick
  • Northern's best chance for a goal in the first half came at the 20th minute, when a cross pass into the box was deflected out to Kelsey Selden but a pressuring defender caused the shot to go high over the net
  • The shot attempts were even at four following the first half, however the Wolves were out-shot 8-2 in the second half
  • Northern State's best scoring opportunity in the second half came in the 55th minute when Megan Fastenau attempted to beat her defender around the outside corner but had her shot deflected, sending the ball over the top of the goal
  • Becker added her second goal of the game in the 71st minute, once again off a penalty kick
  • The Beavers controlled the game offensively, out-shooting the Wolves 12-6 and 5-0 in shots-on-goal, while also holding a 1-0 advantage in corner kicks
NORTHERN STATE STATISTICAL STANDOUTS UP NEXT
Northern State closes their first season under head coach Bob Casper with a record of 7-6-5 (6-4-5 NSIC). The Wolves finished with an eighth place finish in the conference after being picked 13th in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
