Northern State Hosts Upper Iowa and Winona State for Secure a Cure Weekend

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State women's soccer team returns to Aberdeen following two weekends of road contests and will face Upper Iowa and Winona State for Secure a Cure Weekend. The Wolves will face the Peacocks at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 22, followed by a 1 p.m. start on Sunday, October 24, against the Warriors.

NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES
  • Northern State enters this weekend's matches with a record of 5-4-3 (4-3-3 NSIC), and is currently seventh place in the conference standings
  • The Wolves went 1-0-1 last weekend, first earning a 0-0 draw with Sioux Falls, followed by a 2-0 defeat of Southwest Minnesota State
  • In the victory over Southwest, Isabela Polanco Garcia scored her first goal of the season in the 24th minute
  • The Northern defense has produced five total shutouts on the season and is currently on a streak of three consecutive games with no goals allowed
  • After playing a key role in this past weekend's shutouts, and having played a total of 198 minutes, Lilja Davidsdottir was named the NSIC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon
  • NSU goalkeeper Alexus Townsend has not allowed a goal since playing Minot State on October 8, holding the opponents scoreless for a total of 326:24 minutes of action
  • In conference matches, Megan Fastenau is tied for fourth in goals (5) and game-winning goals (2), while also being tied for fifth in points (11)
  • Alexus Townsend currently ranks fourth in the NSIC for saves in conference matches (54) and is tied for fourth in shutouts (3)

UPPER IOWA STORYLINES
  • Upper Iowa enters Friday's match with a record of 6-6 (4-6 NSIC), and is currently ninth in the conference standings
  • The Peacocks got off to a program best 5-0 (3-0 NSIC) start to begin the season
  • UIU went 1-1 last weekend, defeating Minnesota Crookston 3-0 before falling 4-2 to Bemidji State
  • Upper Iowa has had two players earn NSIC Defensive Player of the Week honors this season; Katrina Kazluski earned the award on September 7, followed by Aimee Sies on September 20
  • In conference matches, the Peacocks are last in saves (29) and save percentage (0.569), while also allowing the second most goals (22)

WINONA STATE STORYLINES
