COVID-19 INFORMATION
Northern State University & NSU Athletics are following CDC guidelines to help prevent and slow the spread of COVID-19.  NSU asks all individuals to follow these prevention tips:
  • Practice safe social distancing, keeping at least 6 feet between individuals at all times.
  • Wash hands thoroughly and sanitize equipment after use.
  • Wear a mask and/or gloves when possible.
  • Stay home if you are sick, especially if you are experiencing fever, cough or shortness of breath.
For more information, please visit northern.edu/coronavirus. Sanford Health has recommended that each participant be screened daily upon arrival to the respective facility. Screening will be done by infrared thermometer by coaching staff members. Campers will be asked the following 2 questions upon registration:  Have you been diagnosed with COVID-19, and have you been in close contact with anyone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19? All camp materials will encourage campers, staff, campers, and their families about when they should stay home and when they can return to camp. Each registration form will include the following language:
  • IF you are sick or have recently had a close contact with a person with COVID-19 please stay home.
  • Staff members, campers and their families will be required to stay home if they have tested positive for or are showing COVID-19 symptoms.
If a camper answers yes to the questions above and/or fails the temperature screen, they will be asked to leave and will not be allowed to participate in camp. The camper will be provided with a refund, prorated based upon number of days/sessions participated. All parents/guardians will be required to sign a waiver prior to the start of camp acknowledging risk of COVID-19 in any public place and agree to not hold NSU/SDBOR/State of South Dakota liable for any illness or injury.

Masks
  • All camp staff will be required to wear a mask at all times. Cloth face coverings are meant to protect other people in case the wearer is unknowingly infected but does not have symptoms. Parents should wear masks at any time they are in the respective facility, this will ensure for a safe environment and to ensure a smooth drop-off and pick-up process.
  • The South Dakota Board of Regents has adopted a Face Covering Protocol mandating the use of masks at Northern State University and the other five public universities. The protocol, which applies to all students, staff, faculty and campus visitors, requires individuals to wear masks in all public indoor spaces on campus beginning July 28, 2020.
Signs and Messages
  • NSU will posts signs in visible areas at all camp entrances and high-use areas that promote everyday protective measures and describe how to stop the spread of germs such as by properly washing hands and properly wearing a cloth face covering.
  • NSU will include messages about behaviors that prevent spread of COVID-19 when communicating with staff and families (such as on camp websites, in emails, and through camp social media account).
Parents/Guardians During Camps
  • It is not recommended that parents stay in the facility during camp. After the parent/guardian drops off and assists with child check-in, parents should leave the facility.
  • IF the parent or guardian feels that they must be present in the facility for the duration of the camp, they will be required to wear a mask at all times and practice social distancing at the facility per the Face Covering Protocol outlined above.
NSU Camps Waiver
The parent/guardian of each camper will be required to sign a waiver that includes the following information prior to their son/daughter's participation in camp. This waiver will be available via online registration or in-person registration at the start of camp.
  • By registering your son or daughter for this NSU camp, I acknowledge that an inherent risk of COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. By enrolling my son/daughter in this camp, I voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19 and agree to not hold NSU; the South Dakota Board of Regents and the State of South Dakota, its officers, agents, and employees liable for any illness or injury.  Further, I, the undersigned, hereby hold NSU, South Dakota Board of Regents, and the State of South Dakota harmless from liability for any and all medical and/or accident expenses which my minor child may incur during his/her involvement in the summer sports camps and/or leagues at NSU. I hereby certify that my child is provided coverage via personal health and accident insurance in affect which is sufficient to cover any and all of the expenses, noted above which might occur.
