Wolves Open THE Spring Games with Split

Winter Haven, Fla. – The Northern State University softball team split with Bloomfield College on Wednesday afternoon from the DiamondPlex in Winter Haven. The Wolves opened the day with a mercy rule victory in five innings and dropped the nightcap.

GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Northern notched their first run of the game in the bottom of the first with Rachel Reinke scoring on an error by the catcher
  • The Wolves then broke things open in the second, scoring six runs on three hits
  • Scoring in the second for NSU was Kaitlyn King, Chanel Siebenthal, Sara Bendt, Anne Jonas, Jen Martin, and Kennady Thompson
  • Reinke singled through the left side in the bottom of the fifth, plating Karley King and giving the Wolves the run rule victory
  • Northern tallied eight runs on seven hits with one error in the field
  • Meghan Anderson threw her eighth win of the season, giving up just two hits to the Bears

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Bloomfield College opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, notching one run
  • The Bears added another four runs in the second and third innings, taking a 5-0 lead
  • Northern answered back in the fourth; Shelby Novotny hit a groundout to third base, scoring Jessi Hernandez who pinch ran for Kennady Thompson (infield single)
  • Only one runner reached base for the Wolves in the following three innings, sealing the Bloomfield victory
  • NSU tallied one run on three hits, without giving up an error
  • Dystine Priebe suffered the loss for NSU, giving up three earned runs and four hits
