Wolves Offense Comes Alive, Sweeps the Day with Game Two Comeback

Winter Haven, Fla. – The Northern State University softball team swept the second day of competition from THE Spring Games, downing California University PA and Dominican College. Northern combined for 14 runs and 21 hits in the two wins.

GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Wolves struck early, recording six runs in the first two innings on five hits
  • Scoring for NSU were Rachel Reinke, Sara Bendt, Jen Martin, Kennady Thompson, and Chanel Siebenthal in the first, and Anne Jonas in the second
  • The Vulcans answered back with one run in the top of the fifth via a long ball to deep left center
  • Kaitlyn King tacked on two more runs for the Wolves in the bottom of the fifth on a homerun to left, scoring Siebenthal who singled the previous at-bat
  • Cal-PA loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the seventh and pushed two runs, however it was not enough to take the lead
  • Northern tallied eight runs on ten hits with two errors in the win
  • Meghan Anderson threw her ninth win of the season, giving up two earned runs on six hits with ten strikeouts

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Chargers took an early 2-0 lead scoring a run in each of their first two plate appearances
  • Northern cut into the lead in the top of the sixth, on a solo shot by Kaitlyn King (her second of the day)
  • Trailing by one, the Wolves broke things open in the seventh notching five runs on singles by King and Madison Rutter, and a 2-run homerun by Jen Martin
  • NSU recorded six runs on 11 hits with one error in the field
  • Makenzie Merritt improved to 2-0 on the year throwing a complete game win
