An Offensive Driven Day Leads Northern over Missouri S&T

Joplin, Mo. – In 13 innings of play Friday afternoon, the Northern State University softball team swept Missouri S&T scoring a combined 18 runs between the two games.

GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Wolves and Miners were scoreless through the first frame, however NSU broken things open in the bottom of the second
  • Northern tallied five runs on five hits, leaving one runner on base in the second
  • Scoring for NSU in the second were Chanel Siebenthal, Kaitlyn King, Madison Rutter, Anne Jonas, and Rachel Reinke
  • Siebenthal tallied her second run of the game in the following inning, scoring on a double by Rutter
  • NSU sealed the run rule victory in the bottom of the fourth notching two runs by Julia Sullwold and Shayla Steinley
  • Northern tallied eight runs on eight hits, including three extra base knocks
  • Seven of the nine Wolves in the line-up tallied at least one hit in the game
  • Meghan Anderson earned her sixth win of the season throwing 5-inning, 1-hit shutout

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The night cap was a high scoring affair as the Wolves notched two runs in the second, three in the third, three in the fourth, and two in the eight
  • Northern held an 8-4 lead heading into the fifth, however the Miners began to chip away with one run in the frame and another three in the sixth
  • Headed to international tiebreaker for the second time this season the Wolves plated two runs in the top of the eighth to secure the victory
  • Kennady Thompson scored Shayla Steinley on a right to right and Makenzie Merritt plated Jessi Hernandez (pinch running for Thompson) on a single to right
  • The Wolves tallied ten runs on 14 hits with one error defensively in the win
  • Eight Wolves notched a hit in the win, with five recording multiple
  • Dystine Priebe started in the circle for the Wolves, giving up five earned runs in 4.1 innings of work
  • Merritt entered in relief throwing her first win of the season
