Softball Swept by Missouri Southern State

Joplin, Mo. – The Northern State University softball team dropped a pair of games Saturday afternoon, versus the host Missouri Southern. The losses are the first of the season for the Wolves as they drop to 10-2 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Missouri Southern opened the series with a run in their first at-bats of the game
  • Northern tied the game in the top of the second, however the Lions did not let up notching two runs in the third, two in the fourth, and four in the fifth
  • NSU added one run in the top of the fifth, but it was not enough to overcome the 4-run deficit in the inning
  • The Wolves tallied two runs on five hits, giving up three errors on defense
  • Meghan Anderson suffered her first loss of the season, giving up three earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • MSSU scored two runs out of the gate, before the Wolves chipped away in the top of the third
  • Kennady Thompson plated Rachel Reinke on a single to centerfield; Reinke had reached base via a hit by pitch
  • Northern was unable to tie the game in their following three plate appearances and the Lions tacked on their third and final run in the sixth
  • The Wolves tallied one run on four hits with one error defensively in the game
  • Dystine Priebe started in the circle, giving up three earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts
