Mankato, Minn. - The No. 23 Northern State wrestling team (9-7, 2-5 NSIC) were unable to upset the No. 17 Minnesota State Mavericks (10-3, 6-2 NSIC) Saturday night, falling by a score of 27-8 on the road.
 
The dual got off to a rough start as Landen Fischer fell to Trenton McManus in a 6-2 decision at 125, but Dayne Morton turned it around with a convincing 24-9 technical fall over Lucas Hagel at 133. The Mavericks set the tone soon after however, as No. 9 Louie Sanders turned in a 13-4 major decision over Kenny Jones at 141.
 
At 149, No. 3 Kyle Rathman piled on with a 9-3 decision over No. 10 Caden Moore, followed by a 5-2 decision loss for Walker Carr at the hands of Cooper Siebrecht at 157. Billy Holton was able to stem the bleeding momentarily with an 8-5 decision over Logan Saltou, but Zach Johnston responded with a 12-2 major decision over Tanner Wiese at 174.
 
At 184, Trevor Turriff sealed the win for the Mavericks with a 12-2 major decision over No. 11 Marcus Placide. Rounding out the night were Diego Gallegos and Caleb Lefferdink, each suffering decision losses to Matthew Blome and David Griffet respectively.
 
Northern was only able to notch one technical fall and one decision, while giving up four decisions and three major decision to Minnesota State Mankato. The loss extends the Wolves' losing streak against the Mavericks and brings their all-time record to 1-20.
