Aberdeen, S.D. – Northern State Athletics and Wolves head football coach
Mike Schmidt released the 2020 season schedule today. The Wolves will play five home contests with the home opener scheduled for September 12 versus Southwest Minnesota State. Their 11 game slate includes six games versus the North Division, with Concordia-St. Paul making the jump into the North Division for the 2020 campaign.
"I am really looking forward to the challenge of this first schedule as the head coach at Northern," explained Schmidt. "We open up against the class of the NSIC and we play some really great teams on the road."
Northern officially opens their first season under the direction of Schmidt on September 3 at Minnesota State, before returning to Aberdeen for the home opener versus the Mustangs. Kick-off is set for 6 p.m. from Swisher Field in the fifth annual InsuraCrop Ag Bowl.
Schmidt added, "We're also very excited about playing a great USF team for our Gypsy Days game. Our program will be prepared for this very difficult schedule."
The Wolves then hit the road, traveling south to Upper Iowa University on September 19. Back-to-back home weekends are on tap next for NSU, facing off against Sioux Falls on September 26 for the annual Gypsy Days game and UMary on October 3 for the Sanford Blackout Cancer game.
NSU returns to Swisher Field on October 17 versus Minot State, with a match-up at Winona State University the week prior. Two road games at Concordia-St. Paul and MSU Moorhead will close out the month of October for the Wolves, facing the Golden Bears on the 24
th and Dragons on the 31
st.
Northern opens the month of November versus Bemidji State for senior day on the 7
th and concludes the regular season on the road at Minnesota Duluth on the 14
th.
