Minot, N.D. - The No. 23 Northern State wrestling team (8-6, 2-4 NSIC) took down the No. 23 Minot State Beavers (4-6, 1-4 NSIC) 29-12 in an impressive display of strength on Friday night.

After losing three games in a row early in January, the Wolves wrestling team has begun to turn it around. At the Midwest Duals in Nebraska, Northern State took two of three over tough opponents, and on Friday night they continued their recent success with a win over another nationally ranked opponent.

The dual got off to a rough start as Landen Fischer fell to No. 6 Dean Arevalo at 125 in a 7-1 decision. However, Dayne Morton brought things back with a vengeance, getting a victory by fall over Oscar Nellis at 133.

The momentum kept rolling as Kenny Jones convincingly defeated Lincoln Stormer in a 16-3 major decision at 141, and Adam DeoBer notched a victory by fall over Shadi Mitwalli at 149. Minot was able to stem the bleeding soon after however, as Walker Carr fell to Zachary Berry in a 4-2 Sudden Victory.

No. 5 James Burks would get Northern back on track with a 14-11 decision over Nathan Baca at 165, and Tanner Weise piled on with a 3-1 sudden victory over Joseph Lopez at 174. Putting the Wolves' lead out of reach was No. 11 Marcus Placide with a 10-5 decision over Noa Garcia at 184.

To round out the night Diego Gallegos put up an impressive 15-5 major decision win over Dustin Swisher at 197. Northern would forfeit their match against No. 8 Jordan Will at 285, but they still walked away with an impressive 29-12 win over a tough opponent.

The Wolves put together two decision victories, two major decisions, two victories by fall, and one sudden victory, while giving up just one sudden victory, a decision and a forfeit to Minot State.

Up next, the NSU wrestling team comes home to play Dickinson State at Wachs Arena. The dual will start at 7:00 p.m. on February 5.
