Aberdeen, S.D.  – The Northern State University wrestling team opens the 2019-20 home campaign tomorrow evening versus Saint John's University. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. from Wachs Arena.
 
QUICK HITS ON THE WOLVES

• Northern opened the season last Saturday at the Jamestown Jimmie Open, recording four weight class championships and 14 other top-8 finishes
• In addition, NSU recorded seven major decisions, four technical falls, and 31 victories by fall
• Dayne Morton won the 133 pound bracket going 4-0 on the day with a decision win, two major decisions, and a victory by fall
• In his first outing as a Wolf, James Burks won the 157 pound bracket with a decision victory, two major decisions, and a win by fall
• Burks was honored as the NSIC Wrestler of the Week for his efforts
• Marcus Placide also opened his NSU career with a championship at 184 pounds, notching one decision, two technical falls, and one victory by fall
• Diego Gallegos won the 197 pound bracket with three victories by fall and one decision win
• The Wolves opened the year ranked fourth in the NWCA regionally rankings with eight wrestlers ranked individually
• The regionally ranked Wolves include No. 4 Dayne Morton, No. 4 Kenny Jones, No. 3 Caden Moore, No. 2 Walker Carr, No. 6 Billy Holtan, No. 6 Tanner Wiese, and No. 5 Diego Gallegos

 
MATCHING UP WITH THE JOHNNIES

• Saint John's opened the season last weekend as well from the Stevens Point Open, recording three podium finishes
• Jacob Scherber placed third at 174 pounds with a 4-1 record on the day
• Both Dominic Skawiniak (197) and Lincoln Shinn (184) tallied fifth place finishes with three victories by fall each
• The Johnnies hold a roster of 22 student-athletes in 2019-20, with 11 of them being incoming freshman
• SJU went 1-6 in dual competition a season ago
• Saint John's is led by head coach Kevin Schlitz in his third season at the helm
