Burnsville, Minn. – Following the opening weekend of competition, Northern State freshman
James Burks has been named the NSIC Wrestler of the Week per the league announcement earlier today.
Burks won the 157lb weight class at the Jimmie Open going 4-0 last Saturday. He opened the meet with a victory by fall (2:35) over Maxwell Meekins of Saskatchewan. The freshman then defeated Braydon Huber of UMary in a 10-7 decision in the quarterfinals. Burks advanced to the finals defeating regionally ranked Zachary Berry of Minot State in a 9-1 major decision and downed Max Bruss of UMary in a 13-4 major decision in the finals. He finished the meet recording 19 team points for the Wolves.
Northern State wrestling opens dual competition this Thursday at 7 p.m. from Wachs Arena versus Saint John's University.
