Northern Swimming Opens 2019-20 Season at UMary Quad

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State swimming heads to Bismarck to dive in to the
2019-20 season at the UMary Quad with action starting at 5:30 p.m. on
Friday October 4, and continuing at 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 5 at
the Bismarck Aquatic & Fitness Center. NSU will take on the University of Mary,
Augustana, and Sioux Falls.
 
About Northern:
  • The Wolves finished last season 1-8 overall and 0-6 in conference
  • Northern swim welcomes largest recruiting class under Monanian with 11 freshman and transfers
  • NSU dropped their first meets of the season last year at the Augustana Triangular, to UMary and Augustana
  • Lauren Forsyth has been named the Northern Sun swimmer to watch this season; a member of the South African National team and converted times placing her top-8 in NSIC
  • Northern is projected to finish seventh in the NSIC Preseason Poll
 
About Sioux Falls:
  • Sioux Falls last season finished 5-2 overall and 4-1 in conference action
  • The Cougars took third from the NSIC championships in 2018-19
  • USF's swimmer to watch is Ella Johnson after having an All-American freshman campaign a year ago
  • Sioux Falls is projected to finish third in the league
  • The Cougars are led by head coach Chris Hamstra in his second year
 
Last Meeting:
  • The Cougars defeated the Wolves 126-76 a season ago
  • Northern is 0-2 all-time against Sioux Falls
  • First meeting between these two squads dates back to November 3, 2016
 
About UMary:
  • UMary concluded last season 3-5 overall and 0-1 in NSIC action
  • Sophomore Victoria Murillo is NSIC the swimmer to watch for the Marauders
  • UMary is projected to finish fifth in the conference
  • The Marauders are led by head coach Leah Neiheisel in her fifth season 
Last Meeting:
  • UMary took the meet last year against NSU 259-167
  • Northern is 4-4 all-time against UMary
  • NSU won the first three meets between these two teams dating back to October 7, 2016
 
About Augustana:
  • The Vikings finished 4-3 in conference competition and 4-4 overall last season
  • Vikings junior Taylor Beagle is the NSIC swimmer to watch for Augie
  • Augustana is projected to finish fourth in the conference
  • Augustana finished fourth at the NSIC championship just a season ago
  • The Vikings are led by head coach Lindsie Micko in her third season
 
Last Meeting:
  • In 2018-19, Augustana defeated Northern 172-90
  • NSU is 1-6 all-time against Augustana
  • The first meeting between Northern and Augustana dates back to October 7, 2016
