St. Cloud, Minn. – The No. 25 Northern State University wrestling team fell to No. 1 St. Cloud State on Thursday evening, 42-7. The Wolves drop to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the NSIC following the dual. Northern tallied two wins on the evening, off the backs of
Kenny Jones and No. 10
Caden Moore.
With the Wolves open at 125 pounds, Jones stepped on the mat for the first match of the dual. He tallied a takedown to open the scoring, and led 3-2 heading into the second period. Brandon Briggs chose bottom to begin the second, and Jones quickly go to work with a 4-point nearfall, extending his lead to 7-2. Briggs did escape, however Jones ended the period with a 9-2 lead following a takedown. The redshirt sophomore tacked on another four points in the third, sealing the 13-5 major decision victory.
Moore took on Travis Swanson in the 149-pound match, and remained undefeated in NSIC action. The freshman led 3-1 heading into the final period, after a penalty point in the first and reversal in the second. The scoring picked up in the third, as Moore notched a takedown and Swanson added two escapes and a penalty point. Moore tallied on a riding time point, notching the 6-4 decision win.
The Wolves return to action tomorrow evening on the road at No. 7 Minnesota State. The dual is set to begin at 7 p.m. from Mankato.
