Collegeville, Minn. – The Northern State University wrestling team battled from behind, defeating Saint John's University 22-15 on the road. The Wolves improve to 6-1 overall in duals this season.
The Wolves fell behind early with a forfeit at 125 pounds and a decision loss at 133 pounds. No. 5
Kolton Roth flipped the bill for NSY with an 8-6 decision win over Anthony Hennen.
Bryan Burnett then took to the mat at 149 pounds, notching a close 8-7 victory over Andrew Smith. Burnett's win brought the Wolves within three of the Johnnies.
Caden Moore took the mat, wrestling at 157 pounds for the Wolves. The freshman is currently ranked No. 10 in the 149 pound weight class nationally. He defeated Jerod Novak in a 5-2 decision, tying things at 9-all with five weights to wrestle.
Walker Carr grabbed the lead for the Wolves, with their first extra point victory of the dual. The redshirt sophomore defeated Joe Hennen in an 18-3 technical fall. Saint John's battled back with a decision win at 174, with the scoreboard reading 14-12 in the Wolves favor.
Riley Lura lengthened the NSU lead at 184 pounds, defeating Dominic Skawiniak in an 8-2 decision. After a loss at 197 pounds, it came down to the final match of the evening as Northern lead 16-15.
Harrison Townsend battled with Quincy Spiering into the third period, coming away with a victory by fall at 5:50 in the match.
Northern resumes NSIC actions on January 24
th versus No. 1 St. Cloud State. The dual is set to begin at 7 p.m. between the Wolves and Huskies.
