Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University wrestling team fell to MSU Moorhead on Saturday evening 36-9. The Wolves are now 1-11 overall this season and 0-5 in the league, with four duals remaining this season.
Northern fell behind early as the Wolves dropped the first four weight classes.
Tanner Olson took the wind out of the Moorhead sails notching a decision win at 157-pounds. The senior pinned Patrick Freeman after notching both a takedown and four point nearfall. The 6-point brought NSU within striking distance as they trailed 19-6.
Blake Perryman followed with a win of his own, notching a 2-0 weekend for the senior in his return to the mat. Perryman battled Weston Dobler is a high scoring 10-5 decision. Dobler took an early lead in the first after a pair of takedowns, before Perryman grabbed a takedown and 2-point nearfall of his own. The Dakota Dunes native added an escape and takedown in the third to seal the victory. The win brought the Wolves within ten, however Northern was unable to come up with a victory in the final four duals.
NSU returns to Wachs Arena next Thursday and Friday for a pair of duals beginning at 7 p.m. against Minnesota State and Dickinson State. Northern will honor their three seniors on Friday against the Blue Hawks.
